Anyone else have the problem of socially awkward friends?

I have a fair few friends.....but the problem is that they are so socially awkward! Not all of them but they never want to go anywhere do anything cos they are worried about what everyone thinks of them. Drives me mad and restricts me from going out as much as i would like to. I need to overcome this issue and meet more social people that enjoy going out i dont want to get rid of my older friends it would just be nice to get out there more often and meet new people- anyone else ever have this ? if so how did you go about meeting more social people
