Why do I have such a problem talking to people?

im not shy, at least i dont think i am. I just have real difficultly talking to people. expectantly new people. Its like we dont have anything in common with each other but how can that be possible with ever person that I've met? does any one have the same problem? if so, how did you overcome it? please help me. thanks
